Adult Forums

Pine Street has always taken education in the faith very seriously. In Matthew, Jesus says: Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Notice that Jesus is not satisfied with simply accepting him as Saviour. He asks us to “learn from him.” Come, and learn. Adult Forums are held at 8:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Sunday, June 25. It Ate New York: Liberal Protestants and the Conflict Thesis

The myth of ongoing, inevitable conflict between science and Christianity remains prevalent, despite the fact that modern historians have thoroughly discredited it.  Dr. Davis shows how the Conflict Thesis arose among liberal Protestants and how people and events in New York State led to its rapid acceptance after the Civil War.

(Dr. Davis will be teaching on this subject at various times in the coming program year too.)

Sundays, July 2, 9, and 16 – Jews and Christians: A Journey of Faith. This award winning documentary examines how contemporary Jews and Christians perceive each other, confront prejudice and stereotypes, and how they can understand and respect one another despite their differences. The program is based on the book, Our Father Abraham: The Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith. Dr. Sullivan will lead us in discussion on the video. Bagels will be served on July 2. Note: this might be bumped one Sunday for a forum on our Jewel Ridge Mission Trip.
