Who wrote the Bible? – Part 2
Original Question
Who wrote the Bible and when was it put in writing? – David Harrisburg, PA
Topic
Alex discusses when the Jewish scriptures were written down and why there are variations in the number of books represented in Catholic and Protestant Bibles.
Perspective
In order to answer this question, Alex discusses the historical reasons for why the Israelites took the oral tradition and wrote it down on papyrus. Many scholars attribute the actual writing of the scriptures to the fact that the southern kingdom of Judah was conquered by the Babylonians. In an effort to preserve their history, they wrote down the stories.
However, this was not the only time the scriptures were written down. The Jewish scriptures represent a wide range of literature written over a long period of time. Some books made it, others did not. There many interesting reasons why and Alex covers these in this installment.
