Who wrote the Bible and when was it put in writing? – David Harrisburg, PA
Alex discusses when the Christian scriptures were written down and what the intention of the authors who wrote them.
In order to answer this question, Alex discusses how the earliest stories about Jesus were communicated by word of mouth and were eventually written down in a narrative format known as the gospels (or the good news of Jesus Christ). The other documents in the New Testament are letters written by a variety of authors that give insight into the struggles and triumphs of the early church.
Though the documents in the New Testament are not the only ones written about Jesus, the ones collected into the Bible represent orthodox Christianity. In this installment Alex discusses what constitutes orthodox Christianity and how those documents came to represent the ‘orthodox’ tradition.
In the next installment, Alex discusses his understanding of how God influenced the scriptures, even though they were written by men. To watch, click here.
