Bible Studies
HORIZONS BIBLE STUDY – “Confessing the Beatitudes” is a study, led by the Rev. Heather Sigler on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Room 309, beginning September 21.
This year’s study will challenge participants to see Jesus’ beloved Beatitudes in a whole new light. The study will examine each beatitude in it’s historical context and then guide learners to consider the impact of that beatitude in our day. For instance, lesson one focuses on the first beatitude which we know as “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The author, Dr. Maraget Aymer, translates the first beatitude as “Greatly Honored are the Poor” and invites students to consider how we do or do not honor the poor around us. Sign-up sheets will be available at the welcome center, and study guides also may be ordered there. The cost is $ 8.
ADULT BIBLE STUDIES usually are held twice a year, during the Lenten and Advent seasons. Lead by the Pastoral staff and other leaders in the church, such studies have included topics such as a study of Angels and a study of the book of Revelation. The Bible studies are four to nine weeks in duration depending upon the topic.
The Bible studies are held in various areas. Some leaders hold classes at the church in McCormick Hall while others are hosted in homes by families within the congregation. The classes are very relaxed and informal. Members of the studies range from novice to the “well read”. Much is learned about the topic, as well as each other as we read, listen, discuss, pray, and study the Word of God together.
