General

Q. What door should I use?

On Sunday morning, you may enter the building through any of the doors on Pine, Third, or South Streets.

Q. What should I wear?

You are welcome to come dressed as you like! Many of our faith community dress “business casual” on Sundays, but there is no dress code and everyone is welcome. The important thing is to join us!

Q. Is the church accessible?

Yes, it is. There is a ramp and a door on Third Street for those who are physically challenged and an elevator to each floor.

Q. Where do I park?

There are several great options for parking at Pine Street.

FREE GARAGE PARKING – Sundays and Special Events
Pine Street has access to the South Street Garage for all worship services and special events. Keep the entrance ticket you receive when entering the garage. Pick up an exit ticket from the Welcome Center inside the church. When you leave the garage, insert your entrance ticket, then your exit ticket to “pay” for your parking. The garage is located at 220 South Street.

FREE STREET PARKING – Sundays and Evenings
There is also free parking on the streets from South Street and to the south surrounding Pine Street all day Sunday, on major holidays, and after 5:00 p.m. Monday–Saturday. You can also get four hours of free parking during the day on Saturday by using the promo code “LUVHBG” in the Parkmobile app, available on the Apple and Google Play stores. Click here to watch a video to see how the app works.

REIMBURSED GARAGE PARKING – Monday–Friday from 5:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
If you are coming for church business, we will be happy to reimburse your garage parking expense. You must enter Monday–Friday from 5:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. but you can exit at any time with the entrance ticket you are given when you enter the garage. You must have your ticket with you to open the garage pedestrian doors after hours. If you get locked out or have any issues, there is an intercom at the door which is answered 24/7. This facility is closed on all major holidays, but street parking is free on those days. There are 736 spaces and the clearance height is 6’9”. It is an accessible facility with an elevator. The current rates are $10 for up to 2 hours, $15 for up to 4 hours, and $30 for up to 24 hours. Lost tickets will pay $30 for each day parked. Cash and all major credit cards accepted. The garage is located at 220 South Street.

REIMBURSED STREET PARKING – Monday–Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
If you are coming for church business or activities, we will be happy to reimburse your street parking expense. There are over 1,300 metered-parking spaces located throughout the city of Harrisburg. Parking on the street is currently $3.00/hour. With a credit card, the minimum payment is $3.00 for an hour, and then time can be added in 15-minute increments. With quarters, additional parking time can be purchased in 5-minute increments. Payment is made by entering your license plate number at one of the nearby pay stations. You can choose to have a text sent when your parking is about to expire. You may then respond to the text with the number of minutes you would like to extend, in increments of 30 minutes, which must be done prior to your session’s expiration. You can also pay by using the Parkmobile app on your smartphone. Simply add your information once and it will be easy to pay every time you visit. Submit receipts to the church office and we will issue you a reimbursement check. Visit www.parkharrisburg.com for more details. Click here to watch a video to see how the app works.

STAFF PARKING LOTS
The lots located behind the church off of South Street and across from the church off of Pine Street are reserved for the staff 24/7. Thank you for using one of the above methods for parking when you visit the church.

Please let a church staff member know if you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to help you.

Worship

Q. How long is the service?

Our worship lasts a little over an hour.

Q. What is the worship service like?

Our service is a warm and welcoming traditional worship service that is full of great music. Sermons are based on the Bible. We sing a diversity of hymns. Our choir provides an outstanding and diverse repertoire of anthems that are appealing to all people. Organ, piano, handbells, and other instruments are also used to enhance our musical worship of God. A unique feature of our worship is that we celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday.

Q. What’s with the bread?

We give bread to visitors as a sign of hospitality and welcome.

Q. What happens after worship?

We gather in the Gathering Place to enjoy fellowship at coffee hour.

Children

Q. Is there a nursery?

Yes, we have a nursery every Sunday morning from 8:45 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Q. Are children welcome in worship?

Certainly! We welcome all children in worship. Following the children’s message, children attend a special program called Wonder of Worship. They return to the sanctuary for the celebration of Holy Communion.

Q. Can children take communion?

All baptized Christians are encouraged to take communion. On occasion, we provide instruction to parents and children about participating in communion.

Communion

Q. How do you take communion?

On most Sundays, we pass trays and bread to the people while they are sitting in the pews. On the first Sunday of the month, we invite the congregation to come forward to receive the elements.

Q. What if I can’t walk forward for communion?

One of our elders or deacons will bring it to you.

Q. Do I have to take communion?

No, you may partake of the bread or juice as you feel led, or commune with God through prayer alone.

Pine Street Activities

We nurture our adults through regular church school classes, retreats, and interesting adult forums. The pastor also teaches a variety of Bible studies and also on contemporary issues.

We nurture our children each week in a broadly graded church school class. Our junior and senior high students also gather for study and fellowship activities.

The Handbell Ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursdays from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and warms up before worship at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays. The All-Church Orchestra rehearses seasonally on Sundays after church. All people of all skills and talents are welcome to participate in our musical ministries. The ensembles also engage in spiritual and theological education and fellowship outside of their musical duties.

A group of women gather monthly to read contemporary novels and other books.

Tours of our historic sanctuary are available upon request. E-mail office@pinestreet.org.

From September through May our men gather on the second Saturday of the month to enjoy a hearty breakfast and warm fellowship.

Our deacons care for our homebound members through visits, flower delivery, and home communion. They also co-ordinate meals for those who have recently been hospitalized and assist in worship.

Several times a year our Congregational Life Team co-ordinates dining groups that meet in members’ homes or at restaurants.

Pine Street has an active group of knitters who create shawls for baptized infants, the hospitalized, and those who need special attention. This wonderful ministry extends the healing love of Christ to many people.

Historical Collection

Pine Street maintains an extensive collection of historical artifacts, art, photos, documents, and more from throughout the church’s history. For more information or to schedule a tour, please contact the church historian through office@pinestreet.org.
