THE SESSION

Eighteen elders in three rotating classes of six plus the ministers (Note: at Pine Street, all professional staff is included with voice and vote)

PRESBYTERY OF CARLISLE

All ministers and elder commissioners from 55 congregations.

The Presbytery of Carlisle includes the churches in Lebanon, Dauphin, Perry, Cumberland, Adams, Juniata, Franklin, and Fulton Counties and the Mt. Olivet Church in Hancock, MD.,

The elders are appointed by Sessions based on the size of the congregation: 001-500 = 1 elder, 501-1000 = 2 elders, 1001-1500 = 3 elders, 1501-2000 = 4 elders, 2001 and up = 5 elders

Presbytery has five stated meetings per year: September, November, January, April, June

SYNOD OF THE TRINITY

A unit of mission and support for Presbyteries as well as an intermediate court between Presbytery and General Assembly, but not a legislative body.

Must meet bi-annually, generally annually. Presently Synod is taking a "time-out" to revision and reorganize

Synod of the Trinity includes all presbyteries and their congregations and ministers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and eastern Ohio.

Presbytery elects one elder and one minister commissioner for every 5,000 congregant members in its bounds.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (U.S.A.)

Meets annually, usually for 10 days preceded by a one-day mission conference: receives reports from its Council and General Assembly's Units for ministry; reports from task forces; communications from other denominations; and overtures from Presbyteries.

Gives advice and instruction to Congregations, Sessions, Presbyteries, and Synods; delegates work to task forces and its Council's Units for Ministry; acts as final legislative body in the church for constitutional change.

Comprised of an equal number of elder and minister commissioners elected from each presbytery in the denomination, based on the number of congregant members within each presbytery. 001-10,000 = one elder and one minister, 10,001 and up = one additional elder and minister for each additional 10,000 congregant members or fraction thereof in excess of 5,000.
