MISSION POSSIBLE FUND – Volunteer at Hershey Park by volunteering to work in the Food and Beverage areas of Hershey Park and the Giant Center in Hershey we can raise money to fund PSPC mission efforts.  New mission projects can be started and established projects can continue without worrying about “Where will we get the money?”  And maybe we’ll again be able to help financially support missioners on outbound mission trips. Members of Pine Street, their relatives and friends can all be involved in this effort.  Anyone who volunteers will earn $5.85 / hour for Pine Street’s Mission Possible Fund.  They will volunteer their time, the fund will get the money.  BUT the other great positive is that each volunteer will earn a voucher for free admission to Hershey Park or Dutch Wonderland each time he/she volunteers.  Sometimes the volunteer can earn 2 or 3 vouchers.  OH MY!!!  Sign-up at the Welcome Center.  August should be a month with a lot of volunteering opportunities.  If you are interested in more information, contact Debbie Olson at dolsonmassage@hotmail.com

HOME- GROWN  VEGGIES  --  Do you like to tend that garden patch at home?  Do you have so much growing success that you have too many tomatoes  (onions? zucchini? peppers?)  to even give away?   If so, welcome to the Pine Street Garden Basket! Beginning Sunday, July 18, and continuing through the summer gardening season, the Mission Committee will be hosting an area at the Missions Table in the Gathering Place for home gardeners to donate their excess produce.  Any vegetables deposited in the basket are available for anyone to take free -  or for a voluntary contribution in the accompanying “piggy bank.”  All monetary proceeds, and all leftover produce, will be given each Sunday to Downtown Daily Bread.

GIVE CORN TO DOWNTOWN DAILY BREAD!  With the bounty of corn available, we would like to provide our clients at DDB with fresh corn.  We need 12 to 14 dozen ears per week.  Plan to pick up an extra dozen when you go shopping and bring them in on Sunday. Containers are available in the Gathering Place to collect corn or monetary donations.  If you have any questions, contact Betty Rader or Milica Knepp.

FAMILY RETREAT.  Save the date! for LOF … Lots of Families, following the Good Shepherd.  Pine Street’s first ever families retreat with kids.  Come join us at Camp Hebron in Halifax on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6.  The cost of the retreat is $70.00 per adult and $25.00 per child.  This includes lodging and meals.  Come join us as we connect with God, nature and each other.  For more information please call the church or e-mail Cheryl Goode at cgoode@pinestreet.org.

PARKING HOURS.  Remember your parking ticket for Sunday morning is good only until 2:00 p.m.  Be sure to exit by that time. AT OTHER TIMES, the garage is open for specific events ONLY AS ANNOUNCED.  Do not assume that when the door is open you may park there free. Only announced events are covered by our free parking agreement with the Parking Authority.

PINE STREET LIFE – E-version!  Many of you have received an electronic version of Pine Street Life. We hope that you are enjoying this new and faster way of finding out what’s going on at your church. You will have also received a mailed copy of PSL as well. We are running this concurrently for the first few months to make sure that everything is running smoothly, once that is determined we will drop the mailed copy. Anyone who hasn’t received their PSL electronically and wishes to do so, please e-mail your request to psl@pinestreet.org.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES:

MEN’S BREAKFAST.  Men, make that New Year Resolution now to have breakfast with Pine Street Men on the second Saturday of the month.  Great time of fellowship, discussion and dinning. The best way to start the weekend is by having a great breakfast with other Pine Street men.  We meet at 8 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Come early to assist in preparation and stay for a bit to help clean up or just for conversation.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS.  The flowers in the Sanctuary are contributed by various members and friends of Pine Street. If you would like to donate flowers you can do so by contacting Lucille Nast who coordinates this ministry.

SHAWLS AVAILABLE.  As you enter worship today you will notice that there are baskets containing shawls located in the Narthex and on the pew running along the side of the church near the Lectern where children’s bags are also located.  These are placed in the Sanctuary by the Shawl Ministry … a group of Pine Street members and friends who meet monthly to knit these garments and pray over them, dedicating them as a ministry of caring and love for those who use them.  If you are feeling a chill, take a shawl and wrap up.  If you are feeling a bit lonely, take a shawl. If you just want to feel the love of Christ given through the labor of this ministry, take a shawl.  We ask that you leave it on the pew at the end of the service.  Members of the Shawl Ministry team will collect and launder them for use another week.  Feel free to take a shawl occasionally, or every week as you enter … they are there for your comfort and to remind you of the love of Christ given through those who labor to make them.

CHURCH SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH  Children in pre-K through grade 5 begin choir at 9:30 a.m. each week in Room 106 with Mr. Clark-Jones. They continue with their lesson from 9:55 to 10:45.   Grades 6 through 12 begin the morning at 9:40 a.m. with Middle School meeting in room 103 and Senior Highs in the Boyd Building.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Sunday School area.  We invite all children in pre-K through grade 5 to join with us and sing.

MANY PINE STREETERS HAVE CHOSEN TO E-TITHE.  To acknowledge your e-tithe as an act of worship during the offertory service, you may place a card in the plate as it is passed to you.  You may pick up an e-tithe card at the Deacon’s Bench.

RECYCLING.  Please note the blue recycling bins which are scattered throughout the buildings.  These are meant for paper only.  Please do not contaminate them with other trash.  Trash cans which are gray have trash liners while the blue bins do not.  This helps keep our church ‘green’ by recycling our used paper products. Your cooperation is very much appreciated.

HELP WANTED:

SUNDAY SERVERS FOR DOWNTOWN DAILY BREAD. Pine Street has traditionally served the meal at DDB on Sunday. Anyone wishing to join one of the service teams is encouraged to sign up at the Welcome Center. Remember, Downtown Daily Bread is Pine Street’s local, hands-on mission project. It is your opportunity to serve in Christ’s name personally.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED We are now looking for persons to deliver flowers from January - June 2011. Please stop by the Welcome Center to sign up.

NEEDED:  WORSHIP ASSISTANTS … those adults, youth and children who assist in services by serving as Crucifer, Beadle or Presenter of Bread and Wine at the early service.  Each of these tasks is an opportunity to serve in leadership in our worship. We call ourselves “liturgical”.  The word liturgy is best defined as “the work of the people”.  These three means of service are ways for us to participate in worship more fully.  Adults, youth and children are invited to do their part.  We have a small, faithful core of volunteers who fill these positions each week during the program year, but we could use many, many more.  Come … your work calls!  For more information click here. Sign up at the volunteer table today!

PINE STREET’S HELPING HANDS MINISTRY is an ongoing mission opportunity for members of Pine Street Church.  Any member who needs help with minor work inside or outside their home may sign up to receive helping hands from the mission committee.  Members are required to pay for any supplies needed.  Please sign up at the Welcome Center. Any persons willing to provide the hands to complete the labor required for our members may sign up at the Welcome Center also. Contact person is Roger Olson;  email him at Housedoctr@att.net

THE Welcome Center is full of wonderful volunteer ministry opportunities for the 2009-2010 church year. Most of the volunteer needs require a minimum amount of time. For a partial list of volunteer opportunities, click here. The current list can be found at the Welcome Center located in the Gathering Place and is open for sign ups after both worship services. Stop by, sign up to volunteer, become a team member.
