Depicting the Apostle Peter, the first apostle to take the Word of Christ to the Gentile world, the upper part of the lancet shows the vision of Peter on the rooftop, where it was made clear to him that the message of the loving Christ was not for the Jew alone, but for all people. A sheet is shown, let down from heaven containiing animals. A horse, pig, rabbit, squirrel, and cow are identifiable. Peter has been brought up to believe these were unclean, but in the words which came from heaven, he was told, "What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common." (Acts 10:15. In the predella scene we see Cornelius in his soldier's uniform with his household, three to the right three to the left; he is receiving the Good News with Baptism from Peter. The central motif of the window is the figure of the apostle with staff in hand presenting the Scripture. An open book is on his lap. There are three angets in the scene. The window was given by Mrs. Chalmers G. Wenrich in memory of her husband, Lt. Chalmers G. Wenrich, killed in an airplane crash in Pocatello, Idaho on December 2, 1942 during World War II. |
